I can now say I enjoy this franchise. The Independence Day movies are funny. What I didn't expect was the amount of action in this film. Wow, action packed isn't the word to describe it. I guess that's why I enjoyed the first one a little bit more, it had more balance. Although having different types of action sequences is impressive.
This time the Alien attack occurs for different reasons and when the Aliens arrive it's mayham. Earth must defend itself with both brains and braun.
Most of the original cast (Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum, Judd Hirsch, Brent Spiner) returns and this is a master stroke. One of the Hemsworth brothers is also in it (Liam Hemsworth) so your guaranteed some chuckles.
I must say Maika Monroe was stunning as Bill pullman's on set daughter. Sela Ward plays the president. I've really enjoyed her previous work (The Fugitive, Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights) and this performance is no exception, oh and she's also nice to look at.
"The scale is increased in this movie, the alien spaceships are massive, the aliens themselves are even huge"There are scenes inside one of these alien spaceships where you see that the Alien's have created there own eco-system to survive and it is in these scenes where the ultimate action sequences occur.
Both Independence Day movies to me have a re-occuring theme, that a nifty idea and not some state of the art technology can save the day. I love that, enjoy the action packed 120 minutes.
