Melinda experiences trauma over a summer. Because of this and other reasons she decides be a mute (selectively) in her high school. Shen then struggles at school and with friends/family. She tells some people her dark experiences and why she chose not to speak. The movie also has some uplifting moments. Sweeney as Jack Sordino.
