Asian jazz music plays in the background. A woman enters a hotel with her family, soaked, coming in from the rain. The Hotel manager says there are no rooms left and that she has to go elsewhere. She makes a phone call to her husband and he buys the whole Hotel! She gets a room after all! This intro tells you that this family is ultra wealthy.

Back in America, a girl and a guy are at a cafe. The man is Nick Young, he is from that wealthy family. Another girl spots them and sms's to her friend that he is with a woman and this starts a big chain of sms's all over the world hehehe!!! (from family and friends). She is told that she has to go to a wedding. They go to the airport and they get first class tickets! She is surprised. From the get go there is chemistry between Rachel Chu and Nick Young, great acting by Constance Wu and Henry Golding.

In the plane he chats to her about his family. He has a cousin who finances martial arts movies hehe and another female cousin who is a millionaire and a nice lady. They meet some of the family at the Singapore airport. Great soundtrack through out this whole movie, mainly jazz infused with asian music.

They go to the markets and eat some awesome street food. Great food prep scenes! The camera shots here make you hungry hehe. She gets invited a Bachellorette party! Excellent stylish music. She meets her college friend Peik Lin Goh played by the comedically gifted Awkwafina. She has a very funny family including the hilarious and loveable Kim Jeong (playing Wye Mun Goh). Kim Jeong is consistantly hilarious in every movies he is in!

She finds out that the Young's are like royalty, the biggest developers in Singapore and other countries. Awkwafina as Goh Peik Lin says "Damn Rachel, he's like the asian bachelor!" hehe. They enter the Young's house. Awkwafina is hilarious, she has many dresses in the back of her car with labels: "cocktail", "formal", "walk of shame" hahaha!

Rachel Chu meets the mother of Nick (the talented Michelle Yeoh playing Eleanor Young). The mother, Eleanor, is very strict and uptight. Rachel says she's self made. Nick's mum is impressed but wary that she may not be a good mother. She meets the extended family. A real jazz band plays in the background (great visuals and sound). A girl in the party finds out her husband/boyfriend is cheating! The mother states that his girlfriend is "chinese american" and her customs are different.

The side characters and cousins are silly and funny. She meets grandma, she's famous for making dumplings hehe. The men leave in helicopters for a massive party! The party is on a container ship! Wow! A bachelor says about Nicks's Wife "What does Rachel bring to the party, small tits!". Nick gets furious and nearly beats him up.

The girls have a bachelorette party and go on a spending spree. They also get massage's. She finds out that the girl next to her went out with Nick in the past! She cries and leaves. Written in red ink on her room wall is the following text: "Catch this you gold digging bitch". There is also a dead fish on the bed. Poor Rachel. But they don't call security. She talks things through with her friend and she feels better.

Rachel talks to a female cousin who says her husband is cheating. Rachel has a fight with Nick. Nick and her make up. They go to Grandma's house and make dumplings together. They give her instructions on how to make the dumpling... "you put the baby in bed, then you tuck him in". Then the eccentric male cousin says "You put the botox in then you nip nip nip" hahaha.

Rachel bumps into the mother and the mother is aggresive towards her "You would never be in love". It's quite cruel. But through out the movie Rachel has resilience. Peik Lin Goh (Awkwafina) makes her feel better and tells her "Chinese mothers think their son farts chanel No. 5" hahaha! Rachel needs a make over. Madonna's Material Girl plays in Chinese hahaha. She ends up looking beautiful.

The cousin with the cheating husband has a fight in the limo. He leaves and storms out of the limo. The marriage of the other cousins continues! What a celebration. Nick's mother hired a private investigator and says that Rachel was lying about her family and mother. The mother and grandma tell Nick that they will not approve their son marrying Rachel. In the background to the wedding reception a crazy asian man in a yellow g-string jumps a girl on stage hahaha. This made me laugh hard hahaha.

Rachel is heart broken. Nick brings Rachel's mother to Singapore for support. It is a really sad part of the movie. She plays Mayong with her friends and the mother. The cousin leaves her cheating husband. Coldplay's "Yellow" song plays in the background (asian version hehe). In fact this movie has had one of the best soundtracks this year.

She decides to leave Singapore and go back to america. Nick follows her into the plane. Nick proposes to her. They have a celebration. She smiles at the mother. Finally, she smiles back. "Mother vs son's future wife" movies are always interesting and sometimes funny. There was a lot of tension in this movie but they cut it up real good with some hilarious comedy.

"In terms of comedy Awkwafina as Goh Peik Lin and Ken Jeong as Goh Wye Mun steal the show. Michelle Yeoh (as Eleanor Young, the mother of Nick) also puts in a masterful performance"
Awkwafina has a lot of screen presence, she is very watchable. You actually start to despise Eleanor Young for her for her disliking of the loveable Rachel. Eleanor Young is from a wealthy family and I guess she wants the perfect match for her son.

She also wants longevity for his future marriage. Then there is the fact that Rachel is "Chinese American" and has different cultural values. This movie manages to both create tension and a realistic feel as well as having hilarious moments.

There is great chemistry between Rachel Chu (played by Constance Wu) and Henry Golding (Nick Young), their relationship is believable. What a performance by Constance Wu, she had both charm and endurance. Henry Golding's portrayal of a very wealthy man was spot on. Enjoy the entertaining 2hrs.
